I could tell you my adventures — beginning from this morning, but it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.
It’s now even easier to get to ConFuzzled! With the options of train and plane connections ferrying you practically to the Hiltons front door, and the major motoroway network a 2 minute drive away, you should not have any problems finding your way to the UK’s largest Furry Event!
Arriving by Car
Take Junction 6 exit from the M42, and follow the signs for the NEC. The road bears around to the right and at the first roundabout, the Hilton is on your immediate left.
Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel
National Exhibition Centre
There is parking space for up to 600 cars at The Hilton Metropole. The usual cost of this parking for residents is £8 per night/24 hours, or £7 for up to 3 hours, and £18 for +8 hours up to 24 hours for non residents (with a cost of £140 flat rate for a lost ticket).
For ConFuzzled, we are pleased to announce we have negotiated a significantly reduced rate at £4 per entry/exit. This rate extends to the early arrival and late departure days, and also to our attending only guests. This means if you arrive on Thursday, and do not leave the car park again until Wednesday, you will only ever pay £4.
In order to obtain these rates, you will need to collect a regular parking ticket upon entry into the car park. Upon exit, you need to present this, and your convention badge with lanyard, to the concierge desk located in the hotel’s main reception for payment. Your ticket will then be replaced with a pre-paid one, which you need to use upon exiting the car park. Loss of a ticket will be subject to the hotels flat rate lost ticket fee. Failure to present a convention badge with lanyard will result in standard parking rate fees applying.
PLEASE NOTE: Do not use the pay machines situated around the car park, as you will be charged at full rates.
Arriving by Train
You can plan your journey in advance by using the National Rail Enquiries page. The closest train station is Birmingham International Airport (BHI), which is a 10 minute walk from the hotel through the NEC. This is serviced by Birmingham New Street Station (BHM) which is a hub and reachable from most major locations.
Once you have arrived at Birmingham International Rail Station, simply follow the directions inside the station to head toward the NEC. As you enter into the NEC, take an immediate right and head down the stairs/ramp towards the main exit. Once outside, cross the road and follow the signs towards the Hilton Metropole.
Arriving by Coach
A number of competitive coach services such as National Express and Megabus are available to Birmingham City Centre. From here, you can either opt to catch a train, detailed above, or you can catch the number 900 West Midlands National Express bus service to Birmingham Airport(BHX)
Arriving by Plane
The closest airport is Birmingham Airport(BHX), which operates a selection of direct flights from mainland Europe, as well as connecting flights from a number of US destinations.
All other major UK international airports such as London Heathrow (LHR), London Gatwick (LGW), London Stantead (STN), and Manchester International (MAN) offer connecting train services via Birmingham New Street station.
If you arrive at Birmingham Airport, you can take a free monorail service through to Birmingham International Rail station. Once you have arrived at Birmingham International Rail Station, simply follow the directions inside towards the NEC. As you enter into the NEC, take an immediate right and head down the stairs/ramp towards the main exit. Once outside, cross the road and follow the signs towards the Hilton Metropole.
Hilton Shuttle Service
There is a 24 hour complimentary Hilton Shuttle service for residential guests, available from Birmingham International Airport/Train station. The service leaves the hotel on the hour, and half past the hour, and it is a 10 minute run to the airport pick up/drop off point. The bus service does not automatically run at non peak times so guests are advised to use the courtesy phone on the concourse of Birmingham International Train Station, located just right of the news agents. Once your pick up has been scheduled, you need to make your way down the escalators to the taxi rank, and wait by the first white bus stop.
PLEASE NOTE: this service is run by the hotel, not the convention, and the hotel retain the right to withdraw the service at any time, or refuse travel.
